Trauma isn't only a memory — it's a pattern held in the body. Somatic Experiencing is a science-backed, body-based method for completing the survival responses (fight, flight, freeze) that got interrupted, so your system can move out of chronic bracing.
In practice, this looks like slowing down, noticing sensation, and letting the body release stress in small, manageable doses. Clients often describe it as the missing piece after years of talk therapy: less hypervigilance, deeper rest, feeling at home in their body again.
About Somatic Experiencing in Richmond, all of Virginia, and DC

Most of us relate to our inner life the way our harshest critic would — pushing, judging, overriding. Inner Relationship Focusing teaches a different stance: turning toward what you feel with curiosity and compassion, especially the parts that carry rigid "shoulds" and old survival strategies.
From that relationship, real change becomes possible — not because you forced it, but because something inside finally felt heard.
I work with both acute, one-time traumas and long-term, complex and relational trauma.
Single overwhelming events — medical traumas, accidents, or assaults — that the body hasn't been able to fully move through.
Long-term patterns rooted in family, educational, workplace, or financial trauma — including developmental trauma and codependency.
High-functioning anxiety, hypervigilance, burnout, and the physical tension that comes with sustained workplace pressure.
Repeating painful dynamics and relational strain — past or present.
Imposter syndrome, creative blocks, and self-worth tangled up with productivity — I'm trained to work specifically with high-achieving and creative people.
Sadness, disconnection, and the quiet loneliness of holding it all together.
My office is in Richmond, Virginia (Henrico), and it's ADA accessible. I also work virtually with clients throughout Virginia and Washington, DC. Studies show, and my clinical experience confirms, that somatic work is equally effective through telehealth as in-person therapy.
