Marie Norton Counseling

Fees & FAQ

Private pay, by design

I only accept private pay. For many of my clients, that's not a limitation — it's precisely the point.

01

Complete confidentiality

Your mental health records stay entirely outside of insurance databases. What happens in our work stays between us.

02

No mandated diagnoses

Insurance requires a diagnostic label to cover care. Private pay means treatment is shaped by what you need, not what a claim form demands.

03

Care on your terms

No session caps, no third party deciding how long healing should take. We work at the pace that's right for you.

Want to use your insurance benefits?

If you'd like to seek out-of-network reimbursement, Marie Norton Counseling will send you a superbill at the end of each month summarizing your payments. You can submit it to your insurance for reimbursement. Many plans reimburse a meaningful portion of out-of-network therapy — check your plan's out-of-network mental health benefits to see what yours covers.

Common questions

What are your session fees?

50-minute, individual psychotherapy sessions are $160.

Do you take insurance?

No — I'm a private-pay practice. This protects your confidentiality and keeps your care free from insurance-mandated diagnoses. I provide a monthly superbill you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement.

Do you see clients virtually?

Yes — I work with clients throughout Virginia and Washington, DC via secure video, and in person at my Richmond-area office, which is ADA accessible.

What if I've already done years of talk therapy?

That's true of many of my clients. Somatic work engages the nervous system directly — often the missing piece when insight alone hasn't shifted how you feel.

How do I get started?

Book a time directly on my calendar. We'll talk about what's bringing you in and if this feels like a good fit for you.
